Matthew Ries awarded for outstanding community service
Columbus, OH (October 15, 2015) – Matthew M. Ries received the Ohio State Bar Foundation’s Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under for District 18 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Punderson Manor Lodge and Conference Center in Newbury, Ohio.
Ries works for Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, LTD. in Warren, Ohio. His areas of practice include civil and employment litigation and corporate and commercial law. He is the co-chair of the Trumbull County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Mahoning County Bar Association.
Outside of the office, he spends his time as a volunteer on the Board of Directors for the Alumni Hall of Fame for Warren City Schools, which helps fundraise for high school senior scholarships and co-created the Warren G. Harding High School Foundation, which is also a scholarship fund for students. Ries aided in starting a high school mock trial team and continues to be a coach and advisor to the students. Aside from his school involvement, Ries is an active member in the Trumbull 100, which restores neighborhoods in need, serves on the Advisory Committee of the Warren YWCA and volunteers at the Youngstown Legal Aid Clinic.
Ries received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and earned his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio.
About the Award
The Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under is presented to attorneys, 40 years of age or younger, who contribute substantial time and effort in service to a local social service or to a local civil, artistic or cultural organization. The service must be outside the recipients’ practice of law and given without compensation. Emphasis is placed on current service. Recipients represent the ideals of the legal profession and, by example, are a credit to the profession.
