Baum honored by law foundation for community service

Columbus, OH (April 1, 2015) – Dorian K. Baum will receive the Ohio State Bar Foundation’s Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 & Under for District 9 on Tuesday, April 7 at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky.

Baum is the owner of the firm Baum Law Office, LLC where he focuses on criminal defense, family law and civil litigation issues. When not in the office, Baum volunteers as an attorney representative for the Fairfield County Pro Bono Task force. In the past, he has also taught Street Law Junior, a program that educates 4th and 5th graders on law, civics, Supreme Court cases, citizenship and human rights. “Many of the students I taught couldn’t read or write, but when I engaged them with basic legal concepts through stories, their understanding kicked in just like it did for all of us in law school,” said Baum. “Kids understand justice as well as adults, but my job is to engage all people in those discussions, no matter what their socio-economic background may be.”

In addition to his volunteer work, Baum is a member of the Ohio and Washington State Bar Associations, the Fairfield County Bar Association and Young Professionals of Lancaster.

Baum earned his B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle and his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law.

About the Award

The Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under is presented to attorneys, 40 years of age or younger, who contribute substantial time and effort in service to a local social service or to a local civil, artistic or cultural organization.  The service must be outside the recipients’ practice of law and given without compensation.  Emphasis is placed on current service.  Recipients represent the ideals of the legal profession and, by example, are a credit to the profession.
